Personnel are experienced in a wide variety of inspection, sampling and testing methods used in the field and laboratory. Results from field testing and laboratory analysis typically determine compliance of materials, conditions and workmanship with appropriate specifications, standards, and regulations. TEC was founded in 1966, and has offices in Troy, Ann Arbor and Detroit.

Entry and veteran level position(s) as a construction and geotechnical lab technician for testing asphalt, concrete, and soils. Most work is performed independently during the week in a material lab in TEC’s Troy, Michigan office. Note that occasional weekend work may be required and also that flexible work schedules may be considered. Projects include private sector like commercial, healthcare, industrial, residential developments; and public sector roadwork, parking lots/structures, sidewalks, and curb, etc.

Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include HMA (hot mix asphalt) testing, concrete strength and chemical testing, standard geotechnical soils tests, and engineered soil materials testing. Lab data management and teamwork for larger projects is part of the regular responsibilities. 

Any required training will be provided by TEC. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a wide variety of high-profile Metro Detroit projects. Additional requirements and performance traits to bring to this position include:

  • Be ready and able to take direction
  • Have great oral and good written communication skills
  • Have experience in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Collaborative and cooperative attitude required to work with team and clients

Requirements:

  • Able to lift fifty (50) pounds of equipment
  • Ability to juggle daily work assignments and schedule modifications
  • Willing to work weekend shifts
  • Have a reliable personal vehicle and valid driver license
  • Must be able to pass a drug, background and reference screen
  • Experienced in soils and construction materials testing is preferred, though not required
