Testing Engineers & Consultants, Inc. (TEC), a Certified Woman Based Enterprise (WBE), is a multi-disciplined firm specializing in engineering consultation and testing services in the environmental, geotechnical and construction disciplines.

Personnel are experienced in a wide variety of inspection, sampling and testing methods used in the field and laboratory. Results from field testing and laboratory analysis typically determine compliance of materials, conditions and workmanship with appropriate specifications, standards, and regulations. TEC was founded in 1966, and has offices in Troy, Ann Arbor and Detroit.

Opportunity for a full-time geotechnical engineer at our Troy, Michigan location; a flexible work schedule may also be considered. The desired candidate will be a self-starter and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team atmosphere. Experience in paving, utilities, and structures are desired. Creative and diverse approaches to project challenges are expected. The right candidate will  be knowledgeable in local, state, and federal guidelines; as well as ASTM , MDOT, and AASHTO standards and procedures.

Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include site investigation, data collection, analysis, and the ability to provide sound engineering recommendations. Office work includes project coordination, data management, proposal preparation, client consultation and report writing. We are interviewing candidates of all experience levels and this posting is for applicants with approximately 5 to 15 years of experience in industry and/or academia. Responsibilities and salary will be commensurate with the level of experience.

  • Direct and execute geotechnical project assignments including field exploration, engineering analysis, report preparation and laboratory services
  • Provide project level development and management of proposals, investigations, and reports to the satisfaction of the client and TEC
  • Develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Experience in various soil analyses software is expected
  • Excel in project coordination and management
  • Eagerness to train and mentor junior team members and technicians in the office and field
  • Maximize profitability through astute pricing and utilization of resources
  • Serve as ambassador by representing and embodying TEC’s strengths to potential clients
  • Communicate and present potential new business or resource information, competitive situations, or technology/regulatory factors to Due Diligence leadership

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical emphasis
  • Must have PE license and/or be obtaining PE license via reciprocity from another jurisdiction
  • Holds 5 to 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with excellent communication and project management skills
  • Willing to work flexible hours/shifts on occasion to support project/client needs
